PRAGUE

Prague

The city of King Wenceslas is one of Europe’s architectural jewels, rich in Gothic and Renaissance treasures. But it’s also one of Europe’s most lively cities, with a youthful population, a vibrant nightlife and a dynamic art scene – making a short break in Prague the perfect mixture of culture and fun.

MANDARIN ORIENTAL HOTEL

Housed in a 14th century monastery and located in the ancient Mala Strana district, the opulent Mandarin Oriental opened its doors in 2006 and has quickly become Prague’s finest hotel.

The generously proportioned suites are suave and sophisticated, while the dynamic Barego Bar is becoming the place to see and be seen in. Essensua is a superb contemporary restaurant with historic vaulted ceilings, while the Spa, located in a renaissance chapel, promises total relaxation for all the senses. Book your Prague short break here, and you’ll wish you were staying longer.

PRAGUE CASTLE

Dominating the city on a hill high above the Vltava River, Prague Castle is the largest medieval castle in the world, with sections dating back to the 10th century. This UNESCO World Heritage site is a vast complex featuring the glorious gothic St Vitus Cathedral, the bejewelled Wenceslas Chapel and the Czech National Gallery, housed in the Convent of St George.

EXPLORING THE CITY

A short break in Prague means exploring the Malá Strana - the old quarter that nestles in the shadow of the castle on the west bank of the river. This warren of tiny historic streets transports you back in time to the Baroque glories of 18th century Prague. Visit the spectacular St Nicholas Church with its stunning gilt and stucco interior; then find a cafe on the main Malostanské Square to relax and watch the world go by. Be sure to take a stroll across the historic Charles Bridge, populated with 30 statues from the 18th century.

PRAGUE BY NIGHT

After a day of historical sight-seeing, the modern city of Prague comes into its own at night. There is a thriving restaurant scene with an excellent selection of both traditional Czech cuisine and fine dining. There are also plenty of bars, some great nightclubs and a number of internationally renowned jazz clubs.
