Jefferson’s Fort Payne

Coach of the year 2025

Todd Phillips

We’re proud to recognize Todd Phillips as our 2025 Jefferson’s Fort Payne Coach of the Year!

Coach Phillip’s nominator shared, “Coach Phillips is one of a kind. He goes out of his way to let us and others around him know they are cared for and loved. He not only cares for us as athletes, but people. He goes above and beyond to make sure we are prepared for the real world once athletics are over with, as we know will eventually come to a close. He has gotten me through some of the toughest times in my life. Coach Phillips deserves all the recognition available to be given.”

Please join us in congratulating Coach Phillips for his incredible impact on the community for over 15 years of coaching!

“Coach of the year” hall of fame

Every year, in honor of National Coaches’ Day, Jefferson’s Fort Payne recognizes a coach who goes above and beyond for their athletes and their community. These coaches have made an impact on their players’ lives on and off the field and have been nominated by school and community members.

Congratulations to Michael Phillips, our 2025 Jefferson’s Fort Payne Teacher of the Year!

Mr. Phillips is a Special Education teacher at Plainview.

Here are a few of our favorite stories about Mr. Phillips:

  • Started a seed-to-harvest gardening project for his students to learn how to grow fruits and vegetables – and get the therapeutic benefits of gardening! What began as a few small wooden beds is now 20 raised metal beds and a greenhouse where his students can learn hands-on.
  • Began working as a special education bus driver so he can help his students outside the classroom as well as inside.

Mr. Phillips also reflected on his experience as a student: “When I think back on my own grade school experience, I have very few memories of the actual academic content. What I remember vividly are the teachers—the way they treated me and my peers, their kindness, patience, and the sense of support they provided. That has shaped the way I approach my own teaching.”

Please join us in congratulating Mr. Phillips for his incredible impact in the classroom and beyond!
