Congratulations to Randall Key, our 2026 Jefferson’s Hartselle Teacher of the Year!

Randall teaches 9th-12th Grade Band at Hartselle High School.

We can’t think of a better way to tell you what makes him an incredible teacher than by sharing directly from his nominators:

“Randall Key should be highly considered because he is an amazing educator with a phenomenal passion for his students’ growth. He goes above and beyond standard classroom instruction by pouring his time and energy into the Award-Winning HHS Bands, instilling a lifelong love of learning and music in every student he leads. He is the absolute epitome of the Hartselle City Schools slogan I read at the Board office years ago: Expectations + Effort = Excellence! By continually pushing for excellence, Mr. Key and his band program remain a beacon and a prime example of the best of Hartselle.”

Randall shared, “Teaching is a calling, as well as a responsibility and a privilege. I find it especially rewarding to set high expectations and then support students as they rise to meet them. I strive to create real-world learning experiences, teach students the importance of responsibility and accountability, give the students a sense of belonging, stress the importance of hard work, emphasize the importance of core values, encourage students to be the best they can be, and be kind to one another.”
