Every year, in honor of National Coaches’ Day, Jefferson’s Joplin recognizes a coach who goes above and beyond for their athletes and their community. These coaches have made an impact on their players’ lives on and off the field and have been nominated by school and community members.

Congratulations to Sara Ozbun, our 2025 Jefferson’s Joplin Teacher of the Year!

Sara teaches Special Education at Galena High School.

We learned from Sara’s nominators that she has a huge heart–here were a few stories about Sara that showed her caring spirit. She:

• Over the years has provided for students in need out of her own pocket, making sure they have food, school supplies, and toiletries.
• Offers her planning period as a safe classroom for students who sometimes get overwhelmed in full classrooms.
• Gets to know her students on a personal level through their favorite games, hobbies, and personal stories.
