Lawrence-based Jefferson’s Franchise Systems is planning a second WingStand by Jefferson’s in the Kansas City metro.
The company’s flagship location with a patio is under construction at 5438 Johnson Drive in Mission. It is scheduled to open in late September.
Now it plans to open a location at 7715 State Line Road in mid-October.
Menu items will include wings with 18 signature sauces, sandwiches (including one tossed in gochujang, a Korean chile paste), tenders, and three macaroni and cheese dishes (including the KC Honey Q Mac with white cheddar, chicken and bacon bits, drizzled with honey barbecue sauce and sprinkled with green onions).
The new quick-service concept, with limited indoor seating, allows the company to open in smaller spots than its Jefferson’s restaurants. It hopes to open several more locations in the area market within the next year.
“The brand is going to be a ton of fun, really upbeat and exciting. New flavors and products not currently in the marketplace,” said Brandon Graham, president of Jefferson’s Franchise Systems.
Jefferson’s was founded in Alabama in 1991. The full-service restaurants have a broad menu, but the chicken wings have been a top draw.
It now has 30 locations in six states, including two in Lawrence.
