Congratulations to Jessica Mayes, our 2025 Jefferson’s Winchester Teacher of the Year!
Mrs. Mayes teaches Kindergarten at Decherd Elementary School. She has been teaching for three years.
Mrs. Mayes’ nominators spoke of how she goes above and beyond for all students, whether they’re in her class or not. When she sees students being bullied, she steps in. When she sees children on the bubble of repeating a grade, she single-handedly provides the extra resources they need so they’re prepared to move on to the next grade. Parents also spoke of their children begging to return to the classroom during school breaks because they love Mrs. Mayes’ class so much!
One nominator said, “Mrs. Mayes is so patient and kind with her kids. She treats them like they’re family, and she creates a classroom environment that feels like home. These kids think of their classmates as family, and they treat each other with such kindness because of that. She makes learning fun for them.”
Please join us in congratulating Mrs. Mayes for her incredible impact in the classroom and beyond!
