Jefferson’s of Cedartown is pleased to announce that Michael Chandler has been named the first-ever Jefferson’s Cedartown Teacher of the Year! Mr. Chandler teaches at Cherokee Elementary School, and has been teaching for 15 years. Over the course of his career, he has taught pre-kindergarten, fourth grade math and social studies, and early intervention math.
Mr. Chandler was chosen from a highly competitive pool of nominations submitted by students and community members. The contest, launched in honor of National Teachers’ Day–today, May 6–aims to recognize one of Cedartown’s many deserving educators. Jefferson’s selected Mr. Chandler as the Cedartown Teacher of the Year for his compassion and determination to set his students up for long-term success.
“Mr. Chandler’s nominators spoke of how he always goes a step beyond for his students,” said co-owner/franchisee Daniel Lee. “Not only does he make learning joyful for those in his classroom, he always takes on extracurricular activities to make sure every student is cared for, whether that means car rider duties, lunch duties, volunteering for science night, or pitching in with field trips and schools productions, Mr. Chandler is someone that can be depended on. We’re honored to recognize Mr. Chandler for his dedication and his contribution to the Cedartown community.”
Chandler will receive a $500 gift card to Jefferson’s, and his achievement will be commemorated with a “Jefferson’s Teacher of the Year” plaque for all restaurant patrons to see.
This year is the pilot run for the Jefferson’s Teacher of the Year award, launched as a sister program to Jefferson’s Coach of the Year award, which runs in the fall. The teachers’ initiative was open to teachers working with students of any age, and candidates could be nominated by students, parents and guardians of students, school officials, or other community members.
