Jefferson’s of Summerville is pleased to announce that Jennifer Skelton has been named the first-ever Jefferson’s Summerville Teacher of the Year! Skelton teaches seventh and eighth grade math at Trion Middle School. She has been teaching for 24 years. Skelton credited her own excellent math teachers for inspiring her love for the subject, and she is a proud graduate of Trion City Schools.Â
Skelton was chosen from a highly competitive pool of nominations submitted by students and community members. The contest, launched in honor of National Teachers’ Day–today, May 6–aims to recognize one of Summerville’s many deserving educators. Jefferson’s selected Jennifer Skelton as the Summerville Teacher of the Year for her determination to make sure every child not only understands the material, but also receives the care and attention they deserve.
“Skelton’s nominators spoke of how she goes above and beyond at every turn,” said co-owner/franchisee Jake Lund. “She cares so much for every student, whether they’re in her classroom or not. If a student is struggling with the content, she will stay late to help. If parents or coworkers need a helping hand, she’ll be the helping hand. We’re honored to recognize her for her dedication and contribution to the Summerville community.”
Skelton will receive a $500 gift card to Jefferson’s, and her achievement will be commemorated with a “Jefferson’s Teacher of the Year” plaque for all restaurant patrons to see.
“I am truly blessed to be a part of this amazing faculty and community,” Skelton said in a statement. “The support, camaraderie, and dedication I’ve experienced here have shaped me into the educator I am today. To my colleagues, thank you for your constant encouragement and for creating such a positive and collaborative environment. To the students, past and present, you inspire me every day, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of your lives and learning journeys. I look forward to continuing to serve and grow alongside this wonderful community.”
This year is the pilot run for the Jefferson’s Teacher of the Year award, launched as a sister program to Jefferson’s Coach of the Year award, which runs in the fall. The teachers’ initiative was open to teachers working with students of any age, and candidates could be nominated by students, parents and guardians of students, school officials, or other community members.
